HYPERREALITY
Juxtaposing the Absence of the Body with the Presence of Space
adA pulls from French Philosopher Jean Baudrillard’s Simulacra et Simulation, and his discussions of the world versus the map of said world and the ever-growing implications of images representing reality as that reality becomes increasingly obsolete. Much of adA's work uses the pairing of her multidisciplinary educational background within the studies of medicine, dance, and engagement in the visual arts alongside her side-life as a former BDsM dominatrix to explore philosophical and theological issues relating to Control of the Body within Space. Juxtaposing the Absence of the Body with the Presence of Space allows for the investigation of the vast spaces that can exist between these extremes of what is and what is not, and more importantly: What Could Be. The amount of available options that we had prior and those which we denied or chose against, are more informative than what was ultimately chosen. It allows us to identify and know what we didn’t want, what we were able to control, and more importantly, what was against our control entirely.
